Below is the list of software and tools we use in the lab.

Element

Element is a secure collaboration and messaging app based on the Matrix protocol. We use it for secure group communication and research discussions.

Obsidian

Obsidian is a powerful knowledge base that works on top of a local folder of plain text Markdown files. It is excellent for personal note-taking and organizing research thoughts.

Zotero

Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share research. It is essential for managing your bibliography and references.

VS Code

Visual Studio Code is a code editor redefined and optimized for building and debugging modern web and cloud applications. It is our primary editor for coding tasks.

PDFgear

PDFgear is a free PDF editor and reader that allows you to convert, merge, and edit PDF files with ease.

OneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive is used for file hosting and synchronization. We use it to back up important research data and collaborate on documents.

Overleaf

Overleaf is a collaborative cloud-based LaTeX editor used for writing, editing, and publishing scientific documents.

SumatraPDF

SumatraPDF is a lightweight, free, open-source PDF, CHM, DjVu, EPUB, XPS, and Comic Book reader for Windows. It is very fast and works well with LaTeX workflows.

IguanaTex

IguanaTex is a free LaTeX Add-In for PowerPoint. It allows you to insert LaTeX equations into your PowerPoint slides seamlessly.

Anaconda

Anaconda is a distribution of the Python and R programming languages for scientific computing, aiming to simplify package management and deployment.

GitHub Desktop

GitHub Desktop focuses on simplifying your workflow. It allows you to interact with GitHub using a GUI instead of the command line.

MarkText

MarkText is a simple and elegant open-source Markdown editor, focused on speed and usability.

ParaView

ParaView is an open-source, multi-platform data analysis and visualization application. We use it for visualizing large datasets from simulations.

Gmsh

Gmsh is an open-source 3D finite element mesh generator with a built-in CAD engine and post-processor.

OBS Studio

OBS Studio is free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. It is useful for recording tutorials or presentation demos.

Everything

Everything is a search engine that locates files and folders by name instantly for Windows. It is an indispensable tool for managing large numbers of files.

7-Zip

7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. It is free software and handles most archive formats.

FFmpeg

FFmpeg is a complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert, and stream audio and video.

MATLAB

MATLAB is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment. It is widely used for algorithm development and data analysis.

MeshLab

MeshLab is an open-source system for the processing and editing of 3D triangular meshes. It provides a set of tools for editing, cleaning, healing, inspecting, rendering, and converting meshes.

Blender

Blender is the free and open-source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing, and motion tracking.
